Becoming Better Together at izzy+: Building community in 3rd space, enroll at izzy+ U and join a young girl on her journey of possibilities
What are those curious people at izzy+ up to now?
NeoCon World’s Trade Fair 2010: The Merchandise Mart, Spaces 1150, 11-100, 8-3094
CHICAGO – June 2010 – Anyone up for a game of ping pong?
At NeoCon 2010, the team at izzy+ takes an inspiring look at how spaces where we work, learn and live are changing – and how architects, designers and facility managers can help support that change. But while you’re considering all that heady stuff, take a break from showroom product shopping and join izzy+ to:
- Test two new concept products from designer Joey Ruiter and JRuiter Studio that demonstrate the intuitive social dynamics that occur in today’s collaborative spaces.
- Immerse yourself in a three-day campus experience at izzy+ University, where you can quiz your friends on the Periodic Table of izzy+ Elements, play ping pong at the izzy+ student union and snap a “couch cam” photo for your Facebook page.
- Enjoy an oversized, digital storybook adventure with a young girl named izzy, who has a wonderful imagination, a lot of energy and a big heart.
Space #11-100 and #1150 – New ideas for in-between (third) spaces
How do you structure the unstructured space? Check out the concept products that explore the differences between seated and standing-height places. “We’re designing to support a culture of relevance,” says Ruiter. “People need something to gather around, to share ideas and confidences, or to be alone while they’re standing next to someone else. These two concept pieces show how informal space builds community, where information is shared quickly. And it’s where real work and real learning take place now.”
Space #11-100 – izzy+ University
If today’s college students can find everything they need online, and interact through social networking, how should we shape higher education environments of the future? Let’s take a quick crash course from izzy+ University at showroom 11-100.
“At izzy+ U, our goal is to stretch people’s minds to think about how today's and tomorrow’s commons spaces can be both imaginative and practical in creating greater student and professor engagement,” says Rick Glasser, vice president, marketing and product management. “We’re pulling together the Harter, HÅG, izzy and Fixtures Furniture brands to demonstrate how our blended solutions are ‘Better Together,’ showcasing capabilities through graphics, technology, people and space.”
The campus environment at izzy+ features the Best of NeoCon 2009 Gold Award winner for education solutions, the Dewey furniture collection featuring the new Dewey 6-Top Table, and examples of in-between spaces created with new Truman lounge chairs, tables and benches with the new Penny laptop table. “It’s all done as you’d expect from izzy+, presenting working and learning designs based on our higher ed research – always in a smart, engaging, imaginative way,” says Glasser.
Space #1150 – Better Together: the izzy+ story
What is izzy+ all about? For a complete overview of the izzy+ story, gather round the computer screen for digital storytelling experience, inspired by the Harter Valentine’s Day souvenir book, The Adventures of Olivia and Truman. Motivated by a powerful dream, a little girl named izzy takes a journey and finds that when people share ideas and leverage each other’s strengths, they are, like the business of izzy+, Better Together. The story was created through a collaboration of creative resources, including the DesignVox team and writer Kristin Tennant.
“It’s an interactive visitor experience that brings to life the power of the izzy+ brands,” says Glasser. “The story shows how we help our customers build inspiring interiors concepts based on the benefits of teamwork. This company was created to support people’s New Workstyles and inspire the design community to create places that invite that type of collaboration.”
Space #8-3094 – Smart solutions for community colleges
Where can you find smart, cost-conscious solutions for higher ed classrooms and training rooms? ABCO Furniture’s Z Series and Smart Tables bridge the gap between budget and quality design. “Here, we’re showing how ABCO and Zoom Seating bring great, fresh design to all segments of the contract furniture business,” says Glasser.
The employees of izzy+ (www.izzyplus.com) design, manufacture and market office furniture and seating that solve real problems for real people. The focus is to provide designers with the tools to create inspiring work spaces for forward-thinking customers in home offices and small businesses, in executive offices and board rooms, in hospitals and classrooms. Its award-winning products are marketed under the brand names izzy, HÅG, Harter, Fixtures Furniture, Zoom Seating and ABCO Office Furniture. Based in Spring Lake, Mich., U.S., izzy+ is a business of JSJ Corporation of Grand Haven, Michigan.
