Better Together is a tale that our CEO Chuck Saylor is quite fond of telling. And we learn something new every time.
It’s a compelling story, with many twists and turns through defining moments in history. But in 1999, it took an exciting new direction. Chuck was driven by a vision of how he could help support highly creative, collaborative people of the New Workstyles. They didn’t need offices walls and cubicles to define their workspaces. It was wireless, mobile and often involved latte.
But he couldn’t realize this vision alone. After the dot.com bubble burst and right before September 11, 2001, a small team of us joined him to launch izzydesign: cool, affordable furniture and seating. It was dedicated to his four-year-old granddaughter Isabelle, her family and friends, and generations to follow.
It really wasn’t about the furniture. It was about the people. And we were inspired by the collaborative power of campfires.
About 10 years later, we joined forces with like-minded people who shared our focus on human-centered design, lean principles of business, “do more with less” and customer relationships.
Together, our six brands – ABCO, Fixtures Furniture, HÅG, Harter, izzy and Zoom Seating – now are part of one organization called izzy+.
Together, we are incredibly focused. We believe that unimaginably good things can happen. We are building an inspiring brand around innovative design and collaboration that supports people in the workplace and at centers of learning.
In the workplace of the future, collaboration is the key. It’s the heart and soul of why we’re better together. How do you attack this marketplace? We need to build places that inspire people, where they can see each other and be more interactive.
We're small companies at heart. But we also have smart, big-company efficiencies. That attitude and ability help us do what we do best: We listen. We collaborate. And design is our problem-solving tool.
